It is rare for people to talk about the membership statistics for their Craft Obedience be it a Grand Lodge or whatever and I thought it might be interesting (and because it links in to other comparisons regarding policies etc) to see who actually knows any for their own.I'll kick off: As of 01/11/09 the UGLE comprised of 242,487 members which translates to 300,176 Lodge memberships. Of this 242,487 members, 222,220 are in the UK and 20,267 are in UGLE Lodges overseas These members meet in 7,232 Lodges based in England, Wales, Channel Islands and Isle of Man and a further 750 that meet overseas.

To those (whose posts I have already deleted) sorry but this topic already has a subject so please don't change it. As it says in the Forum Guidance, if you don't like a topic just don't post to it!To Vintagemalt I didn't really want to get into HRA as it is just a continuation of Grand Lodge figures as its members are UGLE's members and it is really Craft that matters in my wondering. However, just for the record: As of 01/11/09 Supreme Grand Chapter of England has 94,026 members translating to 111,937 memberships. Of this 94,026 members 85,823 are members of the 2,917 Chapters in England, Wales, CI & IoM while 8,203 are members of the 322 Chapters overseas.

The Grand Lodge of New Zealand has (I think) 273 Lodges with a total membership of some 10000 plus.
In 1890, of the 151 Lodges operating in New Zealand under the authority of the English, Irish and Scottish Constitutions, the majority combined to form the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. After protracted negotiations, separate formal agreements were ratified by 1913 with each of the three Constitutions recognising the Grand Lodge of New Zealand as the sovereign Grand Lodge in New Zealand. There are variations between each of the three agreements but in essence, they provide for the existing Sister Constitution Lodges to continue practising Freemasonry in New Zealand.
The following are the current number of Lodges in New Zealand chartered to other Grand Lodges:
United Grand Lodge of England
District G.L. of N.Z. North Island 23 Lodges
District G.L. of N.Z. South Island 14 Lodges
Grand Lodge of Scotland
District G.L. of N.Z. North 4 Lodges
District G.L. of N.Z. South 7 Lodges
Grand Lodge of Ireland
Provincial G.L. of N.Z. 4 Lodges
A significant number of the members in these Lodges either have been, or continue to be, members of New Zealand Constitution Lodges.
A couple of years or so ago, an English Lodge, Port Chalmers Marine, transferred its Charter from Port Chalmers, the port of Dunedin in the South Island to Napier in the North Island. It meets in Taradale which is a large township a few miles south of the city. I don't know whether it has changed allegiance from the English South Island District GL to that in the North Island although it seems logical to have done so

Erm, I've just got back from a Prov Craft meeting and meant to ask but forgot :P I think we have about 20,000 Craft members in Spain but would love for someone to tell me the actual figure.
We have a lot more Masons attending though as our fees are high which means that our Lodges tend to have a lot of PIG'S who maintain country membership in the UK to keep costs down...

I've just got to say I'm a little surprised and disappointed that no members (except for Tom and Keith) of other Grand Lodges and Obediences actually know how many members their own Order has. There was a point to this question. Often in our discussions here we get into comparisons of the way our Obediences are organised (eg having Provinces etc) and actually getting to grips with the amount of Masons involved in what we we're talking about adds a persepective that is sadly missing to date. For information, it is, at the moment, my belief that the UGLE has the largest single membership of any Masonic body in the world

Under the Grand Lodge of Spain are approximately 2,200 Masons.
The Canary Islands Province of which I am a member has 220 members.
Across Spain approximately 50% are English and attend English speaking Lodges working Emulation.
The other half are Spanish and usually attend Spanish speaking Lodges working the first 3 Craft degrees of the A&ASR.
Some of our side orders are Spanish such as our HRA is under the Supreme Grand Chapter of Spain.
Some, like Mark are districts from England.

Mike Martin (11/03/2010) I've just got to say I'm a little surprised and disappointed that no members (except for Tom and Keith) of other Grand Lodges and Obediences actually know how many members their own Order has.
Oddly enough, we just had a report from the GPC last week, and I've learnt these statistics. I just hope I don't get kicked for divulging this, FM in Hungary is extremely hush-hush.
348 members in 12 lodges. One of these is English-speaking emulation (mine, with 48 members on the books, but about 17 as the core), one is French-speaking, and I can't put my finger on the ritual they use, and one is German-speaking Schroder.
There's also a Hungarian-speaking Emulation lodge, and the rest are the "Hungarian workings", which are a modified Schroder ritual.
BTW, if anyone wants to come over to Budapest on the 27th of May, they would be more than welcome at our installation (and will also see me getting the Treasurer seat).
We also have our own Grand Chapter, but as I'm only joining that some time in autumn, I have no clue how many members we have in it. There's also the local version of S.R., modeled on the Northern Jurisdiction, but is to the best of my knowledge invite-only (and in Hungarian, so not much use for the likes of me ;))
Mark in Eastern Europe is a traveling circus that meets in one of the capitals every quarter.

Just a little info. The largest Lodge in the U.S. was Henry Ford's lodge, Palestine Lodge No. 357 in Detroit.
Copied from The lodges web site: "Palestine kept growing until the late 1920's when it reached its' peak - over 4800 members - the Largest lodge in the world. Wherever Masonry was known, Palestine and bigness were synonymous."
